The 1998 456 is a 2-door, 4-passenger sports car, available in two trims, the GT and the GTA.

Upon introduction, the GT is equipped with a standard 5.5-liter, V12, 436-horsepower engine that achieves 10-mpg in the city and 16-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. The GTA is equipped with a standard 5.5-liter, V12, 436-horsepower engine that achieves 9-mpg in the city and 15-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.
